About - Barcamp Kashmir
About BarCamp Kashmir.
BarCamp Kashmir is a participatory “un-conference” event, that attracts the most talented developers and IT experts in Kashmir and brings them together to share knowledge and get to know each other in person.
We provide all the basic needs, and hope that people interested in teaching and learning in an open environment come together to share their knowledge and experience.
It is an event motivated by the desire of learning by sharing. It is a place where the IT fraternity of Kashmir gets together to discuss/rant/brainstorm/share opinions about Technologies, Trends, Mobile Internet, Hacking, Blogging, Programming, Web, anything about the technology that interests. The event aims to expose IT community of Kashmir to new trends in IT and boost their technical abilities and skills, besides aiming at attracting IT communities from outside to Kashmir.
BarCamp Kashmir is a volunteer run, nonprofit conference. Thanks to everyone who helped with BarCamp Kashmir and to our fantastic sponsors, who provide support making the event possible.
What will the sessions be about at BarCamp Kashmir?
Whatever people are interested in. In past years, we’ve learned about software piracy, Drupal, .net technologies, technology solutions for non-profits, talked about software development, open source, closed source, web development, geeks and … and plenty of other things.
Why is it (sometimes) called an “un-conference”? Because you aren’t coming to see one person speak, or a “panel of experts” on stage. You’re coming to meet and connect with people just like you. We are all experts at our own experiences, and BarCamp is about sharing those experiences with others. If you know something, you shouldn’t be afraid to speak up and say it. If you aren’t sure about something, ask some questions.
Free-flowing many-to-many interactions are the defining characteristics of a true unconference. However, over the past few events, sessions at Barcamp have tended to become presentation centric. We are seeking to make it discussion centric.
BarCamp Kashmir will be free (thanks to our sponsors) but you can’t just sit there and absorb… you have to get involved, and take part in the event.
Wikipedia has a great page explaining what a BarCamp is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp

Previous Camp
The maiden event of CampKashIT was organised on 24th of February, 2008 at Govt. B.Ed College, Srinagar. Since then, this year’s BarCamp is the 3rd of its kind.
Worth mention!
This event does not belong to any commercial entity and is purely a community effort. Target of the event is to foster communication between IT users and professionals in Kashmir and bring them together in the form of a community. We are expecting a good number of industry people from outside Kashmir to attend the camp and speak about technology.
